Jeremy Klick delivered five fabulous innings of one-hit ball, and four Honkers relievers tossed scoreless innings to spark Rochester to a 4-0 win over division-leading Waterloo.
It's the first time this season that Rochester has defeated the Bucks.
Taison Corio, Aaron Simmons, Robert Moore and Jacob Shaver all delivered two hits. Corio and Moore both doubled in the first inning to give Rochester an early lead. Tanner Tweedt's RBI single gave Rochester some breathing room in the eighth inning. Nick Thimsen knocked in the third run of the night with a fielder's choice, and a Waterloo error handed the Honkers a fourth run in the ninth inning.
But the Rochester pitching staff was the true star of the show. Klick's outing was one of the best showings of the season. T. Palmer Mickelson fanned one in the sixth. Tanner Cunha ran into trouble in the seventh, but a strong throw from left fielder Logan Sanders completed a key 7-2 double play to keep the shutout intact.
Jack Zalasky worked around a walk in the eighth and Stone Churby fanned two in the ninth to lock the door. The Honkers will host Waterloo on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Ace Larson Kindreich will be on the bump.
