A's 11, Stewartville 0, 5 innings

The No. 2-seeded A's got off to a strong start in the Sub-State 1 tournament, riding strong pitching by Josh Fletcher and Matt Haun in beating No. 7 seed Stewartville 11-0 in five innings.

The A's (8-12-1) also got timely hits. Ben Johnson led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Fletcher got the pitching win, going the first four innings and allowing just three hits.

"It was a solid, efficient start for us in the tournament," A's coach Todd Stellmaker said. "We put runners on base, got timely hits, played solid defense and pitched well. It was a good overall team effort. Couldn't ask for more in the opening round of the (Sub-State) tournament."

The A's play No. 3 seed Austin in Wednesday's 5 p.m. semifinals at Marcusen Park in Austin.

Redhawks 13, Byron 0

The top-seeded Redhawks got off to a strong start to the Sub-State 1 tournament, blitzing No. 8 Byron 13-0 in five innings. They rode a terrific pitching performance by Brevin Goetz. Goetz worked all five innings, allowing three hits and one walk. He struck out six.

"Brevin Goetz pitched an absolute gem of a game, and we got offensive production from the top to the bottom of the order," Redhawks coach Chris Prindle said.

Ian Regal and Sam Hruska each had two hits for the Redhawks. Regal homered and had three RBIs. The Redhawks totaled 10 hits.

The Redhawks play No. 4 seed Owatonna at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Marcusen Park in Austin in the tournament semifinals.

Austin 8, Albert Lea 1

No. 3 seed Austin got a 3-for-3 night from Zach Bollingberg, including a triple and two RBIs, guiding it past No. 6 seed Albert Lea 8-1.

Sam Nelson, Teyghan Hovland and Tanner Murphy each totaled two hits. Bollingberg was the winning pitcher, allowing seven hits over six innings.

Austin plays the No. 2-seeded A's at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the tournament semifinals at Austin's Marcusen Park.
