Dustin Wright is on pace to become Triton’s next varsity girls basketball coach.
Pending board approval later this month, Wright will replace Melissa Young, who stepped down at the end of this past season. It was Young’s third year with the program. She’d guided a turnaround, going 25-27 in her final two seasons at Triton.
Prior to Young showing up, Triton’s best season in 13 years was in 2007-08, when it went 7-19.
Wright is a familiar face at Triton. He graduated from the school in 2008. He later attended Winona State where he earned a degree in Elementary Education. He’s currently finishing his masters work in Education and Sports Leadership at Southwest State.
Wright was the Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart head girls basketball coach the past two year. Prior to that, he’d coached at Moose Lake-Willow River.
Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart finished 21-7 this year and 10-16 in 2018-19.
Triton graduated three of its top four scorers from this past season’s team, but returns Brylee Iverson. The 6-feet-1 freshman forward averaged nearly 18 points per game.
