The Rochester Community College women’s basketball team kicked off its season with a win on Friday, pushing past Highland Community College 70-60 at RCTC.

Not only was it the Yellowjackets’ opener, but it was also the first game for new RCTC coach Jason Bonde.

“It was a great first win and was great to be back on the floor playing,” Bonde said. “I am very proud of how our team responded throughout the game. We are young and learning every day.”

Lewiston-Altura graduate and Yellowjackets freshman Myia Ruzek led RCTC with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Ravyn Myles had 15 points and six assists, Olivia Christianson had 16 points and five rebounds, and Kandace Sikkink had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Highland CC is a Division I junior college out of Freeport, Ill.
