AUSTIN -- The Rochester Community and Technical College women's basketball team is still perfect.

The Yellowjackets improved to 10-0 on Wednesday with an easy 78-36 win over host Riverland Community College in junior college play.

Despite the lofty record, the Yellowjackets aren't taking their success for granted.

“We just take it day by day,” freshman guard Ravyn Miles said. “We’re 10-0 now, but we can’t let that get to our head. Each game is new and we’re 0-0.”

It was just a year ago that RCTC wasn't able to field a team due to a lack of players. Now the Yellowjackets have a squad that is ranked No. 9 in the NJCAA Division II national poll.

“We’re playing well together,” RCTC coach Jason Bonde said. “We’re playing as a team, we’re not selfish. We take great shots.”

Miles credits the unity of the Yellowjackets for the team's success.

“I think definitely our chemistry off the court helps a lot,” she said. “We have fun when we play. Even when we’re down we try to have fun. We’re really good at uplifting each other and I just think we’re a positive team in general.”

On Wednesday, RCTC had a trio of players with double-doubles as it defeated the Lady Blue Devils for the second time this season. Kandace Sikkink led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Olivia Christenson had 14 points and 11 rebounds while Lexi Hugeback had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

“This team, we have a couple of players who can score in bunches and we’ve got other players who know if they do certain things they can score a lot,” Bonde said. “We’ve got a good balance of talent all around.”

Miles had 18 points and five assists for RCTC and she was 5-for-12 from 3-point range.

“It kind of depends on the game, but most of the time our scoring is very spread out,” Miles said. “If one person is off another person is on so someone has to step up and we know that. We have shooters that can shoot and we have guards that can get to the basket and bigs that can put up a shot.”

The Yellowjackets had a great mix of scoring on the inside and outside. RCTC hit 13 3-pointers and also scored 28 points in the paint.

“We always try to go inside-outside,” Miles said. “We try to go inside as much as we can.”

“When we’re getting inside-to-out threes, that’s when they seem to go down the most,” Bonde said. “As long as we move the ball around and take great shots, we’ll put ourselves in a great spot.”

Jadyn Anderson added nine rebounds for RCTC, which controlled the boards 52-34.

RCTC beat Riverland 95-53 earlier this season.

Cayli Miles led Riverland (3-5) with 16 points.
