The 33rd annual Bear Creek Five-Mile starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Mayo High School.
The race attempts to equalize all runners by staggering start times according to predicted finish times. Runners must predict the time they think it will take to run five miles to the nearest 30 seconds.
At 9 a.m. the slowest predicted time runners will start. Every 30 seconds after that, another group will take off according to their respective predicted times. Anyone faster than his or her predicted time is disqualified. There is a 1 hour, 10 minute time linit.
Cost is $10 (Rochester Track Club members $8). The top 10 winners receive wooden bear trophies.
