The Rochester Honkers continued to find the going tough against the hot-hitting Alexandria Beetles in a 10-5 extra-inning loss in Northwoods League college baseball Friday night.
Alexandria scored five runs in the top of the 10th inning, after Rochester had rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth before a crowd of 1,145 at Mayo Field.
The Beetles' big hit was a three-run homer from Mike Theofanopolous (California), after two batters had walked, to break the 5-5 tie. It was his first homer in 15 games for Alexandria.
Alexandria (22-8) won its sixth straight and continued its march toward the North Division second half title. It was the fourth straight defeat for Rochester (13-16), which has dropped out of the playoff race. The Honkers are 8 1/2 games back with nine remaining.
