Boys basketball | John Marshall 88, Austin 65

AUSTIN — This figured to be Rochester John Marshall's stiffest test so far. Turned out it wasn't much of a test at all. The Rockets romped past previously unbeaten Austin 88-65 Friday night in Big Nine Conference boys basketball.

Turned out it wasn't much of a test at all. The Rockets romped past previously unbeaten Austin 88-65 Friday night in Big Nine Conference boys basketball.

Unbeaten JM is ranked fifth in state Class AAAA, while Austin is fifth in Class AAA.

The Rockets moved to 5-0 in the Big Nine and overall. Austin is 4-1, 5-1.

JM put the game over in a hurry, leading 50-30 at halftime.

The Rockets were once again led by the Hurt brothers, Senior Michael Hurt had his third triple double of the season, with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He also added four steals. Freshman Matthew Hurt had 31 points, 18 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots.

JM finished with 13 3-pointers. Michael Hurt had five, Matthew Hurt had three and D'Angelo Tines (12 points) had three.

"This was a good win for us tonight," JM coach Kirk Thompson said. "I thought we really played at a high level of speed on both ends of the floor. Michael Hurt really showed his senior leadership with his all-around great play on offense and on defense."

Isaiah Walden also had a strong game for JM. The junior point guard dished out seven assists and had nine points. Tines had five assists.

Kyle Oberbroeckling had 12 points for Austin and Jace Murray 11.
