Boys basketball: L/P boys riding win streak

Picking up where they left off before the break, the Lyle/Austin Pacelli boys basketball team continued its winning ways in Tuesday night's home opener.

Scoring in transition off the fullcourt press allowed the Lyle/Pacelli Athletics to build a 27-point lead at halftime over the visiting Alden-Conger Knights. The Athletics kept it rolling in the second half for a 64-30 win at the Pacelli Gym.

"The guys were fired up to be playing at home for the first time and they did a good job," L/P coach Casey Anderson said. "We got the press going and scored a lot of points off their turnovers in the first half."

David Diang scored 14 points in the first half to spark the L/P offense and finished with 18 on the night. Skylar Meyer added 13 points in the first half as the Athletics built a big lead in the non-conference game.

Meyer continued with the hot hand all night and finished with a game-high 27 points. He also had 16 rebounds in the lopsided win. This was the third straight win for the Athletics.

"We controlled the boards and held them to one shot on most of their possessions," Anderson said. "After losing our first four games this season, it looks like we're now headed in the right direction. The defense got the big run started in the first half and we kept playing hard the whole way."

Lyle/Pacelli (3-4 overall) returns to Southeast Conference play on Thursday night at home against LeRoy-Ostrander.
