Rochester Lourdes got a strong defensive second half from Noah Hillman and a strong offensive game from Carter Greguson as it pushed past Pine Island 61-56 Friday in Hiawatha Valley League boys basketball at Lourdes.
Hillman had the assignment of guarding Pine Island star Broc Finstuen. Hillman got in foul trouble in the first half when Finstuen had 18 points. But Hillman held the 6-foot-4 junior to just six points after that.
"That was a really good second half defensively for us," said Lourdes coach Jim Daly, whose team trailed 31-30 at intermission. "And we made plays when we had to."
Greguson pitched in mightily with his offense. The junior guard finished with 20 points, including one 3-pointer.
"Carter is a great competitor and he showed a lot of mental toughness tonight," Daly said. "We ran some sets for him and he was able to finish plays, many of them through contact."

Lourdes, which has won its last three games, is 3-2 overall and 3-0 in the HVL. Pine Island slipped to 0-4, 0-2.
The Panthers got 24 points form Finstuen, 12 from Bryce Hinrichsen and 11 from Camden Heepke. Hillman and Dominic Sieve both chipped in 10 points for Lourdes.
