Boys basketball | Osseo 64, Plainview-Elgin-Millville 60

Plainview-Elgin-Millville looked in great position to win its second Rotary/US Bank Holiday Classic boys basketball championship in the the last three years.

However, the Bulldogs couldn't hang on despite building a 10-point halftime lead and fell 64-60 to No. 3 state Class AAAA ranked Osseo on Thursday night at Mayo Civic Auditorium.

P-E-M entered 8-0 and ranked first in state Class AA. Osseo is now 7-1.

The Orioles made their comeback behind quick and rugged defense, as well as tough rebounding down the stretch.

Osseo grabbed its first lead since midway through the first half with 1:28 left in regulation, when Terez VanPelt hit both ends of a one-and-one free throw opportunity.

Joey Sonnefeld led Osseo with 16 points, while VanPelt had 14.

Cole Olstad paced P-E-M with 34 points. After struggling with his shooting in the semifinals, Olstad shot 11-for-23 from the field against Osseo.
