CALEDONIA — Rushford-Peterson shaded Caledonia 65-60 in Three Rivers Conference boys basketball in a battle of state powers on Thursday.
Rushford-Peterson (17-1) entered the game ranked No. 2 in Class A and Caledonia (13-3) was No. 1 in Class AA.
Kyler Paulson, a 6-foot-4 center, led a balanced Rushford-Peterson attack with 16 points. Alex Vix had 15 points and three 3-pointers while Jacob Merchlewitz had 14 points and Charlie Krambeer added 10 points.
The visiting Trojans (12-0 in Three Rivers play) led 34-25 at the half.
Colton Lampert had 20 points for Caledonia, 6-7 Kyle Sorenson netted 14 and Austin Bauer scored 10 points.

R-P held a huge edge at the line, making 21 of 28 free throws while Caledonia (9-1 in Three Rivers play) was 7-for-13.
Both teams are coming off state berths a year ago. R-P placed second in Class A and Caledonia was third in Class AA.
