Boys Hockey | Hibbing/Chisholm 1, Mayo 0

Rochester Mayo played a strong game on both ends of the ice, but couldn't beat a hot goalie on Friday at Graham Arena.

Hibbing/Chisholm's Tyler Carlson stopped all 30 shots Mayo threw at him and the Bluejackets escaped with a 1-0 victory against the Spartans in a non-conference boys hockey game.

Mayo (9-3-0 overall) played very well defensively, limiting the Bluejackets (7-6-0) to 16 shots on goal. Case Hansen made 15 saves to keep the Spartans in the game. The only goal he allowed came in the second period, when Josh Bestul set up sophomore Colten Perkins.

The Spartans had several good chances on power plays, when assistant coach Todd Huyber said the team moved the puck well, but Carlson came up with several big saves.

"Their goalie played very well," Huyber said. "We played well, could've played better. We kept the puck in their zone a lot in the second period. It was a very good effort by our 'D' and Case played well.

"We sustained offensive pressure, but we just couldn't find a way to get one in the net."

Mayo plays host to Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl at 3 p.m. today.
