Boys lacrosse | John Marshall/Lourdes 8, Century 7

Bryan Frischmann once played lacrosse for Rochester Century coach Andy Roth, but now he's the first-year coach of the John Marshall/Lourdes team.

On Thursday, Frischmann and the Rockets faced Roth's Panthers in a crucial intra-city matchup, and the Rockets emerged with a hard-fought 8-7 victory in overtime, with Isaac Lamppa scoring the winning goal.

"This was a great cross-town battle," Frischmann said. "The game was back-and-forth for pretty much the entire game."

Max Jenney and Isaac Plager had two goals apiece for the Rockets, while Century was led by Jonathan Trachsel with two goals, three assists and seven groundballs.

Roth said the Rockets came out firing and might have caught his squad off-guard. "I think our players were a little surprised with how quick JM came out in the first quarter," he said. "As we settled in, it was a game where each team traded opportunities. Our players are disappointed with the outcome, but I'm sure they'll use it to motivate themselves the rest of the season."

Cam Emmert had 10 saves for Century.

Frischmann said he's already looking forward to the rematch. "This is the first time JM/Lourdes has beaten a cross town team in at least four years, maybe more. And the best part is, we get to battle with the Panthers again in a couple weeks!"

JM/Lourdes is 2-1, while Century is 1-2.
