Boys lacrosse | Owatonna 5, JM/Lourdes 4 (2 OT)

To say that John Marshall/Lourdes and Owatonna are equally matched in boys lacrosse would be an understatement.

On April 30, the Rockets went to Owatonna and escaped with a thrilling 12-11 win. On Thursday, Owatonna got its revenge, coming to Rochester and claiming a 5-4 win in double overtime. It was the final regular-season game of the year for both teams.

JM/Lourdes head Bryan Frischmann, who has guided the Rockets to a 7-6 record in his first year, said defense dominated this contest.

"I think Owatonna deflected a good half-dozen passes from our offense, so they were knocking down quite a few chances," he said. "It went back and forth with some fast breaks, quick saves and then fast breaks down the other way. I'm proud of how the guys battled and never quit on this game."

Max Jenney had two goals for the Rockets, and Xander Oamppa had an assist and 15 groundballs. Goalie Tate Rench kept the Rockets in the game with 13 saves.

"It was our senior night, and every player played for the seniors," Frischmann said. "They should be very proud of how they came along this season and banded together."

JM/Lourdes will face Lakeville South (7-6) in the opening round of the playoffs on Tuesday.
