ST. LOUIS PARK — Lourdes was up against an old rival Monday in non-conference boys soccer. It was that rival, Benilde-St. Margaret's, that came away with the win, 2-0.

The Red Knights scored once in each half and improved to 6-5-3 while having played a rugged schedule. Lourdes lost for the second time in four games. The 10-3 Eagles are ranked 10th in state Class A. Benilde-St. Margaret's is unranked.

"We were slow off the start and thanks to (goalie) Noah Morris making some great saves we were down only 1-0 (at halftime)," Lourdes coach Tom Kane said. "Then the last 20 minutes of the first half and first 20 minutes of the second half we played right with them and even had a goal called back for offsides. We missed a couple breakaways also. Then Benilde controlled it again and Luke Horton finished the scoring for them."

Morris finished with 10 saves. Benilde-St. Margaret's goalie Ben Smogard had five saves. It was the first time all season that Lourdes allowed more than one goal in a game.

Kane is hoping his team learned from the loss.

"It will be a learning experience as we realized despite their record they are one of the top teams in Class A," Kane said. "I am disappointed we haven't put together a full 80 minutes as we have to figure that it before sections."
