Boys swimming | Century cruises to Big Nine Conference meet win

AUSTIN — Century won six of 12 events and dominated the Big Nine Conference boys swimming and diving meet Saturday at Austin's Ellis Middle School pool.

Century poured it on with 452 points and Faribault was a distant second with 279, followed by Austin (269) and John Marshall (247). Mayo (178) was seventh among 10 teams.

Century sophomore Jason Tri won two individual events, the 100 yard backstroke (54.83 seconds) and the 200 free (1:47.34). Also for Century, freshman Alex Kofler won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.69), and freshman Sam Hayward won the 500 free (5:05.57).

Century won two of three relays, the 200 medley (1:42.24) and the 200 free (1:31.66). Kofler swam on both relays, along with seniors Nikita Dolan and Jack Koplin. Senior John Cima was also on the 200 medley team, and junior Will Flaada swam on the 200 free relay.

John Marshall senior Nick Cox won two events, the 50 free (22.14) and the 100 butterfly (53.70). JM was second in the 400 free relay, and eighth-grader John Becker as second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 IM.

Mayo didn't have any conference champions. Sophomore Caleb Van Loon was second in the 500 free; junior Sam Jaeger was third in the 50 free; and the 200 medley relay was third.

For Austin, senior Nick Brehmer won the 100 free (49.65); the 200 free relay was second; junior Alec Anderson was third in 1-meter diving; and sophomore Craig Heimark was third in the 100 free.
