Bruins shut out the Minot Minotauros

MINOT, N.D. — After losing by a goal in the first stop on their weekend road trip, the Austin Bruins came back with a shutout win Friday night over the Minot Minotauros.

Doing all their scoring in the first two periods of play, the Bruins posted a 3-0 win over the Minotauros. Austin has now won all six meetings with Minot this season.

In the first period, Austin Nelson scored the initial goal on Friday for the Bruins. This gave goalie Nicholas Lehr all the offense he would need in the road win. Lehr stopped all 27 shots he faced on the night.

Building on their lead, the Bruins scored a pair of power play goals in the second period. Christian Folin made it a 2-0 lead about eight minutes into the period.

John Kirby recorded one of the assists on Folin's goal, then he closed it out with a goal. Kirby scored on the power play in the waning seconds of the period. This gave the Bruins a three-goal lead and the defense took care of the rest in the third period.

• The weekend for the Bruins started with a 3-2 loss on Thursday night to the Aberdeen Wings. Scoring a goal in each of the first two periods, the Wings led the whole way in the North American Hockey League game.

Coming to life in the third period, the Bruins scored a pair of goals but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. Early in the third period, Jeremy Finger scored a short-handed goal for the Bruins. The Wings then came right back and put the lead at 3-1 for the home team.

The visitors added one more goal before the end of the contest. Jonathan Gerht was set up by John Simonson and Chris Fischer. The Bruins outshot Alexandria 31-21 in the loss.
