Burkhalter wins, loses National Junior Olympics

MOBILE, Ala. — After winning his first fight, Nate Burkhalter of Rochester has lost in the second round at 145 pounds at the National Junior Olympics tournament.

The 16-year-old Burkhalter defeated Michael Stegall of House Springs, Mo., in a first-round match on Tuesday night. Burkhalter posted a 17-9 decision to advance to the second round.

Burkhalter then lost to Marco Magdaleno of Las Vegas in the second round on Wednesday night in Mobile, Ala.

With the loss, Burkhalter is eliminated from title contention. A total of 14 boxers were in each of the 11 weight classes at the tournament. The winner of each weight class will be a member of the United State International Team.
