Caledonia's Goergen gets DII national wrestling honor

St. Cloud State University wrestler and Caledonia native Austin Goergen has been named the NCAA Division II National Wrestler of the Week after a dominant performance at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open.

St. Cloud State University wrestler and Caledonia native Austin Goergen has been named the NCAA Division II National Wrestler of the Week after a dominant performance at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open.

Goergen, a redshirt junior heavyweight from Caledonia, Minn., was the Super Region III and NSIC Wrestler of the Week. He won top honors in the 285-pound bracket at the Iowa State University Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Sunday. Goergen went 5-0 with five pins in his matches at the Cyclone Open.

A two-time All-American, Goergen placed second in the nation at 285-pounds at the 2015 NCAA championships. He now has 39 falls during his career at SCSU.

St. Cloud State is currently ranked #2 in the NCAA DIvision II national poll and is the defending NCAA Division II national champion and the four-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champion.
