Century opens with a 'W'

WASECA — Rochester Century got its season off on the right skate.

The Panthers jumped to a three-goal first-period lead against Waseca and went on to an 8-3 non-conference girls hockey victory.

Century led 3-0 after one period and 6-2 after two. The Panthers outshot Waseca, 33-20.

Century had two goalies split time. Kaitlyn Maidl made 11 saves and Abby Cunningham stopped six shots. Waseca goalie Taylor Juberien finished with 25 stops.

Katie Aney led Century with a hat trick and an assist, while Jessie Aney had a goal and three assists. Allysa Dahl scored twice for the Panthers and McKenna Bridges added two assists.

Century (1-0-0) is back in action Friday at 7 p.m. at New Richmond (Wis.).
