Century's Huber commits to play football at Augustana

From football to hockey to track and field, Isaiah Huber catches the eyes of nearly everyone watching a game or a meet that he is involved in.

His combination of speed and pure athleticism make him a tough matchup, regardless of the sport.

He could be a college athlete in any of those sports.

Thursday, Huber made his decision. The Rochester Century senior committed to play college football at Division II Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D.

He wrote on social media: "I’m excited to announce that I’ve committed to Augustana University! Thank you to all my friends, family, and coaches who have helped me pursue my goal to play college football!"

Augustana went 9-3 overall last year and qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs.

Century head coach Jon Vik played his college football at Augustana. The Vikings also currently have three former Rochester players on their roster -- freshman kicker Ben Limburg (Lourdes), freshman long snapper Zach Nickels (Lourdes) and Huber's former teammate at Century, Jack Fisher, a freshman wide receiver.

Huber will start practice for his senior season on Monday. He was an All-Big Southeast District pick last year, when he rushed for 822 yards and had 16 total touchdowns despite missing more than two games for a Century team that finished 7-3 and reached the Section One, Class AAAAA championship game.

Huber's biggest asset is perhaps his versatility. The Panthers have used him as a running back, receiver, defensive back and kick returner.

He's also shown versatility on the ice in the winter, having played both defense and forward for the Panthers. He scored six goals and had 10 points last season, helping Century win the Big Nine Conference championship.

His junior track and field season was wiped out due to the coronavirus, but as a sophomore he was a key member of Century's 4x100 relay team that placed second in the Class AA state meet, as well as the Panthers' 4x400 team that placed fifth.

According to the Big Nine Conference website, Century will open its football season on Saturday, Oct. 10, at rival Rochester John Marshall.
