College baseball: Glomski homer helps RCTC post split

Ben Glomski hit the first homer of his college career to help Rochester Community and Technical College split a pair of games with Iowa Central in junior college baseball on Thursday.

Glomski, a Wabasha-Kellogg grad, went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer as RCTC won the opener 7-4. Dustin Nelson was also 2-for-4 and he drove in one run while Alek Zentzis drove in a pair of runs.

"We hit the ball really well in game one," RCTC coach Steve Hucke said.

John Brown earned the win allowing four earned runs on four hits with nine strikeouts in six innings. Nick Lilienthal got the last out in the bottom of the seventh for the save.

Host Iowa Central rebounded for a 5-3 win in the nightcap. Ian Ross hit a solo homer for the Tritons.

"Game two, we just didn't get the clutch hit with guys in scoring position," Hucke said. "We had guys in scoring position quite often and their pitcher made some pitches and got out of the innings."

Kody Larson had two of RCTC's six hits. Zach Bakko was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Damon Nuss also drove in a run.

Austin Baab suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in six innings.

RCTC opens MCAC Southern Division play on Saturday with a doubleheader at Anoka-Ramsey at 1 p.m. Saturday. RCTC then hosts St. Cloud Technical College in a pair of games at 1 p.m. Sunday.
