MANKATO — With the end of the first half of the Northwoods League summer college baseball season quickly approaching, the Rochester Honkers are streaking in the wrong direction.
The Mankato MoonDogs scored six runs in the first three innings and beat Rochester 7-5 on Sunday night before a crowd of 1,205 at Franklin Rogers Park, extending the Honkers' losing streak to three games.
Rochester (14-11) is among six teams within 2 1/2 games of the North Division lead. The first half of the 72-game season concludes after games on June 30.
Mankato turned a 6-4-3 double play to end Rochester's last threat in the top of the ninth inning. The Honkers matched Mankato with nine hits, but Rochester had five errors that led to two unearned runs for the MoonDogs (14-12).
Mankato rocked Rochester starting pitcher Tyler Feyereisen (St. Thomas) for six hits and five earned runs through five innings. The 6-foot-3 righthander took the loss to even his record at 1-1.
