The Rochester Community and Technical College men’s basketball team has moved up to No. 1 in the national rankings in the Division III junior college poll.
The Yellowjackets, coached by Brian LaPlante, received five first place votes and 75 total points this week to slip past Joliet Community College and into the top spot. RCTC moved from the No. 2 position and past the Wolves after wins against Ridgewater and Riverland.
RCTC is 24-1 on the season and avenged its only loss to Central Lakes College earlier this month. Last season Joliet defeated RCTC in the Division III national championship game.
The Yellowjackets will play their final two homes games of the regular season this week. They host Fergus Falls today at 8 p.m. and Anoka-Ramsey on Saturday at 3 p.m. The RCTC women are at home both days also, playing two hours prior to the men's game.
