College Football: Minnesota State outscores Winona State

WINONA — Minnesota State, Mankato improved to 6-0 on Thursday night with a 44-24 win over Winona State in college football.

The visiting Mavericks, ranked No. 3 in the nation in Division II, recorded a key Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over an in-state rival.

MSU rolled up 393 yards of offense. Dorian Buford caught six passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterbacks Ricky Lloyd and Nick Pieruccini combined to throw for 233 yards and the Mavericks also rushed for 160 yards.

Josh Gordon led the Minnesota State defense as he recorded four of the team's seven sacks.

Winona State sophomore quarterback Jack Nelson of Byron threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score. The loss was the second straight for the Warriors (3-3).
