ST. CLOUD — Rochester Community and Technical College rallied to beat North Dakota State College of Science 45-41 on Sunday to win the MCAC state football championship for the sixth straight year.
RCTC trailed 41-22 going into the fourth quarter before scoring three straight touchdowns.
All three TDs came on passes from Nick Rooney to Patrick Bolton. The duo hooked up from 3, 29 and 9 yards. The 9-yard TD came with just 2:18 to play.
RCTC, ranked No. 2 in the nation, had eight turnovers against No. 12 NDSCS. Rooney overcame five interceptions by throwing five touchdown passes. He now has 55 TD passes this year, the most ever in junior college history for a single season.
The Yellowjackets have won a state-best 21 state crowns.
