Orcas are strong third overall at state event
The Rochester Swim Club Orcas came loaded for bear on March 14, the opening day of the 2013 Minnesota Age Group State Championships. The Orcas swam over 65 percent best times, achieved 29 new Central Zone qualifying times and established 19 team records.
The Orca boys won their age divisions in the 8 & under and 9-10 groups with the 8 & under girls and 13-14 boys capturing second. Leading the hunt were individual high point winners, Ethan Yao (8 & U -1st), Allie Hathaway (8 & U - 2nd), Thatcher Dowdy (9-10 -3rd) and Alex Kofler (13-14 - 3rd).
Working together as a team, the Orcas separated the weak from the herd and captured a third-place finish overall, missing the elusive first place by a mere 229 points. The top three team finishes in the state were: Aquajet 2,572; Edina 2,545.50; and Orcas 2,210.50.
