Head coach: Paul Callahan. Assistant coach: Gary Lovelace
Last season: The Panthers had an outstanding 2019 season. They qualified for the state meet after placing second at the Section 1AA meet. Callahan's crew finished 15th at the state meet.
Outlook: Callahan and the Panthers are poised for a monster 2020 season. Five of the top-7 runners return from a state-qualifying team last year. Silas Green, Seth Hill, Jason Dong, Ryan Horton and Aiden Austin are all talented veterans. Josh Brunholz was the top athlete on the junior varsity team last year. Cardon Leske and Carter Poncelet are two more big-time contributors.
Coach Callahan says: "Collectively, this group of runners has one of the best "team" mentalities that I have observed. They will be a very competitive team this year when given the opportunities to compete. Every day we get together is a gift. We never know if we will get another to be together which makes each practice that much more special. I am grateful for each day spent with the team this season. The athletes are beginning to understand that we do not need to be afraid of failure. Without the possibility of failure, there is no thrill in success."

JOHN MARSHALL ROCKETS
Head coach: Michael Sonnabend. Assistant coach: Dan Feda
Last season: Meti Omod showed the state how talented he really was last season when he placed 14th at state individually. JM placed 11th at the Section 1AA meet, but Omod placed second individually and shined at state.
Outlook: Six of the top-7 runners from the Section meet graduated, so it'll be a transition year for the Rockets. Peter Dahlen and Garrett Eick are the only two runners who return that have varsity experience. Eick placed 66th in the Big 9 meet as a sophomore. Matt Duncan, Nick Weist and Peter Jones will have to step up into big roles.
Coach Sonnabend says: "Our numbers are down this year with 35 and there should be some good competition for varsity spots Our new additions to the team have been a pleasant surprise. We are looking forward to the old school dual and triangle meets."
Seniors: Andrew Curran, Peter Dahlen (captain), Joel Glascock (captain), Kyle Pido, Nicholas Weist (captain). Juniors: Elliot Anderson, Kyle Day (captain), Garrett Eick (captain), Daniel Evans, James Garcia, Peter Jones, Drake Mitchell, Gave Robison. Last season: Mayo finished eighth in the Big 9 conference meet last season and ninth at the Section 1AA meet
Outlook: Four of Mayo's top-5 finishers at the Big 9 conference meet return this season. Lance Pfrimmer, William Roden, Ryan Gwaltney, Levi Hanson, Nathaniel Willaert, Benjamin Timmerman, Lucas Neisen, Keaton Wall and Matthew Hadad all got lots of experience last year, and they're back for bigger and better things this fall. Prfrimmer and Roden both
Coach Carroll says: "The improvement of this team has been a slow but steady one, and we expect to see overall improvements to continue this year. The seniors this year have some high expectations and they have done a great job laying the groundwork for many years to come."

Head coach: Pete Gilman. Assistant coaches: Josiah Swanson, Brian Rossow
Last season: The Eagles finished in sixth place in the HVL last year and also placed sixth at the Section 1A meet. Kevin Turlington placed sixth at the Section 1A meet as a sophomore and placed in the top 60 at state.
Outlook: Turlington is poised for a big junior season, but the Eagles also have some talented runners behind him. Nathan Renier (32nd at Section 1A meet) and Jack Archbold (81st at Section 1A meet) both should be rock-solid for Lourdes. Dylan Rossow and Nicholas Timmerman are two newcomers that Gilman is fired up about.
Coach Gilman says: "I expect us to have some solid performances from our experienced runners. We have outstanding leadership from our lone returning Captain Nathan Daniels. We are hoping to perform our best at the end of the season."
Seniors: Nathan Daniels. Juniors: Nathan Renier, Cullen Chase, Jack Archbold, Ethan Thompson, Owen Good, Braedon Fitzpatrick, Kevin Turlington. Sophomores: Nicholas Timmerman. Head coach: Lindsay Johnson
Last season: Schaeffer Academy placed 11th at the Section 1A meet. Senior Isaiah Lahr was one of their top performers a year ago, but a host of underclassmen got a ton of time on the course.
Outlook: The Lions don't have a huge team but they have some strong runners atop the lineup that could give them a bunch of success this fall. Luke finished 18th at the Section 1A meet with a time of 17:51, narrowly missing a ticket to state. Aidan Kluth will also return, and he also placed in the top-75 at Sections. Sean Flaherty, Joseph Lash, Isaac Trondson and Cole Morgan are also veterans who will try and break out.
Coach Johnson says: "This year is a fun team dynamic with new and fresh potential as well as plenty of older returners that help lead their teammates and encourage one another. I am looking forward to seeing how the athletes are able to push themselves to new abilities even in this unprecedented season."
Seniors: Luke Bothun, Sean Flaherty. Juniors: Aidan Kluth, Joseph Lash, Cole Morgan. Eighth-graders: Danny Bierbaum, Joseph Block. Seventh-graders: Luke Friese
Head coach: Wayne Dickie. Assistant coaches: Amy Hoffman, Merilea Osterlund, Logan Friess, Jeremiah Jones
Last season: The Defenders placed 10th at the Section 1A meet last season. Sophomore Kevin Hagstrom was magnificent and finished in 21st place.
Outlook: Hagstrom is back, so the Defenders will be very competitive. Juniors JJ Hicks and Nat Friess both finished in. the top-75 at the Section 1A meet. But there's not a ton of varsity depth. Dickie is hoping some of his younger runners step up and lock down roles behind Hagstrom, Hicks and Friess.
Coach Dickie says: "In 2020 there will be many factors outside of everyone’s control but we are elated to be competing as a team. The boys were generally inexperienced a year ago and even though we graduated two top runners, I think we can be a top 10 team or better in Sections. We will be searching for consistent runners who can remain with our top three. If we can do that we could be closer to a top-five section performance."
Seniors: Jaedan Biermeier, Will Fulton, Austin Reynolds, Rowan Young. Juniors: Nathaniel Friess, Kevin Hagstrom, JJ Hicks, Ethan Ruelle. Sophomores: Philip Goetz, Jacob Schmoll, Nickolas Van Camp, Scott Wass. Freshmen: Elijah Hicks, Thomas Klein. Eighth-graders: Tim Roduner, Sam Perry, Caleb Franklin, Alex Alderman
