OWATONNA –– Seth Hill wanted it badly. COVID-19 axed Hill's chance at a state title, so the Section 1AA crown was the second-best thing. But Hill was a little greedy. He also wanted his Century Panthers to take home the team title too.

Check. And almost checkmate.

Hill blitzed the course to the tune of a 16:24.07 time and edged Farmington's Robbie Spain by just over two seconds for the individual title.

Century got great showings from Jason Dong (10th), Silas Green (13th), Aiden Austin (15th), Josh Brunholzl (18th) and Ryan Horton (20th), but Lakeville South barely defeated the Panthers for the team crown.

Still, it was a heck of a showing for Century.

SECTION 1AA GIRLS

Farmington is once again the Section 1AA girls cross country champion.

The Tigers won the section title for the third straight year with a stellar effort. Farmington had the two top finishers in the event and four of the top 10. The Tigers finished with 30 points and Lakeville South was the runner-up for the second straight year with 48 points.

Farmington senior Anna Fenske also defended her individual title. She won the section title for the second straight year with a time of 17:35.1. She was followed by teammate Mariah Fenske in 18:27.1.

Due to COVID-19, there will be no state meet this season.

Century senior Caitlin McWilliams would have been a state qualifier as she was one of the top five individuals not on Farmington or Lakeville South.

McWilliams placed 12th overall in 19:23.9 and she helped Century place third in the team standings, one spot up from the Panthers' finish a year ago. Gracie Shannon (19th in 20:12.1), Jazzlyn Hanenberger (21st in 20:13.1) and Sophia Trabuco (24th in 20:22.2) all had strong finishes for Century.

Red Wing seventh-grader Nora Hanson was 13th in 19:24.4 and she also would have been a state qualifier.

John Marshall senior Greta Freed placed 20th in 20:12.9. The Rockets placed 11th out of 17 teams.

Mayo placed eighth and Arely Jaime-Luevano was the top Spartans' finisher in 28th place.
