Despite seizures, Jerry Kill wins regional coach of the year

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill joined Florida State's Jimbo Fisher and three others as the American Football Coaches Association's regional coaches of the year, the University of Minnesota announced Tuesday.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill joined Florida State's Jimbo Fisher and three others as the American Football Coaches Association's regional coaches of the year, the University of Minnesota announced Tuesday.

Kill, who led the Gophers (8-4) to their best record since 2003, was honored as the Region 3 coach of the year. He was one of five Football Bowl Subdivision coaches honored, along with Fisher in Region 1, Missouri's Gary Pinkel in Region 2, Baylor's Art Briles in Region 4 and Stanford's David Shaw in Region 5.

Kill was recognized by the AFCA for the third time in his career; he won awards while coaching in the Football Championship Subdivision at Southern Illinois in 2003 and 2004.
