Faber could break UWEC scoring record

• Austin High graduate Kristin Faberis a member of the women's hockey team at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Faber is a junior forward for the Blugolds. While the Blugolds were off last weekend, two weeks ago, Faber had a big weekend and inched closer to setting all kinds of UW-EC school records. On Jan. 15, Faber scored one of her team's two goals in a 2-2 tie against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. On Jan. 16, Faber scored two goals and added an assist in a 4-4 tie against UW-River Falls. With her four-point weekend, Faber now has 74 career points at UW-Eau Claire. Her point total is just one point shy of tying the school record. And with one year of eligibility remaining, Faber is pretty much a lock to break the record. She'll get her first chance to break the record this weekend, when the Blugolds at Lake Forest College in Illinois on Saturday and Sunday. Faber also is close to breaking several other school records. She has 44 career goals, which is six shy of the school record. Faber has six game-winning goals, which is also six goals short of the school record. Faber already holds the school record with four short-handed goals, and she's closing in on the school assists record. Faber has 30 assists, and the school record is 44. For the season, Faber has a team-best 18 goals. She also leads the team in points with 27 and is second in assists with nine.

One of Faber's teammates — Taylor Jenkins— also is an Austin High graduate. Jenkins is a sophomore forward for the Blugolds. She's also having an outstanding season. In the 4-all tie against UW-River Falls two weeks ago, Jenkins had a goal and an assist. For the season, Jenkins has 10 points, including four goals and six assists.

• Austin High graduate Lindsay Lukesis a member of the women's swimming and diving team at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Lukes is a senior. Over the weekend, UW-Stevens Point hosted the "Get to the Point" Invitational. The Pointers took first place in the nine-team event. Lukes was a major part of the victory. She swam on the team's 200 freestyle relay team that placed eighth with a time of 1:43.63. Lukes also competed in the 100 backstroke, finishing 12th with a time of 1:04.28. Lukes was a member of the UW-Stevens Point 800 freestyle relay team. That group placed sixth with a time of 8:13.17. Lukes was a member of the team's 400 medley relay team, which finished second with a time of 4:06.77. Her best performance from the entire invitational came in the 200 freestyle. In that event, Lukes took home the gold, winning with a time of 1:57.83. Lukes also placed sixth in the 1,650 freestyle in 18:52.99. UW-Stevens Point returns to action Saturday at home in a dual meet against UW-La Crosse.

• Austin High graduate Shannon Doyleis a member of the women's swimming and diving team at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Doyle is a junior diver for the Eagles. After recently completing a training trip to Florida, UW-La Crosse returned to action over the weekend. Doyle and the Eagles, like fellow Austin grad Lukes, competed at the "Get to the Point" Invitational on the UW-Stevens Point campus. As a team, UW-La Crosse placed fourth out of nine teams. Doyle had a strong performance in both diving events. She placed fifth in the 3-meter event with a score of 395.85. Doyle was sixth in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 375.85. UW-La Crosse returns to action Saturday in a road dual meet against UW-Stevens Point.
