First half struggles bury L/P boys

Digging a big hole in the first half proved to be too much to overcome Friday night for the Lyle/Pacelli boys basketball team.

Hope Lutheran took advantage of the slow start by the L/P boys and built an 18-point lead at halftime. The L/P Athletics rallied in the second half, but came up short in a 58-52 loss.

"In the first half, we came out dead offensively and only scored 16 points," Lyle/Pacelli coach Casey Anderson said. "There was no intensity and a lack of hustle which put us in a deep hole at halftime."

Ryan Rust led the Athletics with a game-high 19 points as they hit the comeback trail in the second half. Skylar Meyer added 14 points for L/P in the home loss.

"Ryan had a big game for us, he bought a lot of intensity and played real hard," coach Anderson said. "In addition to the nice offensive game, he also had 11 rebounds and three steals. The kids played hard in the second half, but we were too far back."

Lyle/Pacelli falls to a 5-12 overall record and now 5-8 in the Southeast Conference.
