Fishing licenses expire Friday

The 2013 Minnesota fishing, hunting and trapping licenses expire Friday, so new ones are needed Saturday, the Department of Natural Resources is reminding anglers.

The DNR also reminds anglers that their ice houses have to be off the ice by Saturday if the shacks are on the Mississippi River backwaters between the two railroad tracks, or Monday if they're in southern Minnesota but not on border waters.

You can bring shelters back onto the ice after those dates, but they can't be left out overnight.

DNR conservation officers in this region report that last Thursday's blizzard turned top of some snow on lakes into slush, and it could have frozen in around the shacks. Plan accordingly, as removal of shacks could be a challenge.
