BYRON — Byron's defense turned Red Wing away four times in the red zone to preserve the narrow win, including an interception in the end zone in the fourth quarter.

Byron quarterback Ryan Thompson scored the only touchdown on a one-yard keeper in the fourth quarter, capping a long drive. The key play was a 40-pass completion from Thompson to Wyatt Nelson to put the Bears on the doorstep.

Byron running back Dan Fujan was a workhorse with 22 carries for 124 yards. Thompson completed 7-of-12 passes for 91 yards and no interceptions.

Red Wing managed 228 yards in offense with 187 on the ground. Owen Bowens rushed 12 times for 80 yards to lead the Wingers, who finished 0-9.

No. 4 Byron (3-6) is at No. 1 Kasson-Mantorville (7-1) on Saturday.
