GRAND MEADOW — Grand Meadow coach Gary Sloan was less than pleased with how the SuperLarks performed on defense in a Week 5 loss to Lanesboro.
The Larks took out those frustrations — and righted their defensive ship — on No. 5-ranked Spring Grove on Friday. Trenton Bleifus had two touchdown runs and Grand Meadow had seven players reach double figures in tackles as the SuperLarks defeated the Lions 12-7 in a Southeast Conference football game.
"We played as a team," Sloan said. "We played really good team defense and we tackled well. We had seven guys in double figures. That's gang-tackling."
Bleifus, who finished with 63 yards rushing and 156 passing, scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter for a 6-0 Grand Meadow lead.
Spring Grove answered, and took a 7-6 lead into halftime, on a 1-yard run by Caleb Happel that was set up by a 52-yard pass completion to Dustin Vickerman.

That's where the score stayed until early in the fourth quarter, when Bleifus scored on a 16-yard run for the winning points.
Happel managed 105 rushing yards on 29 carries for the Lions (6-1). Spring Grove had 223 total yards, including 110 rushing and 113 passing.
Landon Jacobson rushed for 99 yards on 23 attempts for Grand Meadow (6-1), while Cody Ojulu caught four passes for 96 yards. The SuperLarks finished with 322 total yards, 166 on the ground and 156 passing.
