Football | Kasson-Mantorville 42, Byron 35 (1AAAA semis)

KASSON — Top seed Kasson-Mantorville built a big lead early and cruised to 42-35 win over No. 4 seed Byron in a Section 1AAAA football semifinal game Saturday night.

K-M scored four touchdowns in the first half to surge to a 28-7 lead, and the Bears made it look close with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter against K-M's reserve players.

The KoMets finished with 420 yards in total offense, with 355 on the ground. Freshman quarterback Brady Berge ran 16 times for 199 yards including a touchdown, and Tanner Minette had 16 carries for 90 yards and two scores.

Byron quarterback Ryan Thompson had a big game completing 10-of-26 passes for 235 yards with four touchdowns. Receiver Kip Knutson caught five passes for 168 yards and two scores, and Nelson Wyatt had two catches, both touchdowns, for 25 yards.

Byron, which snapped a six-game losing skid in the first round of the playoffs against Red Wing, finished 3-7.
