MABEL — Mitch Kuhn got Mabel-Canton off to a fast start with an 81-yard touchdown run and a 16-yard TD pass reception, and the Cougars thumped West Lutheran 54-16 in District 9 Southeast Subdistrict nine-man football on Friday.
Wayne Ross had 11 carries for 95 yards rushing and three touchdowns (4, 4 and 5 yards).
Weston Wahlen was leadinag rusher with 176 yards on 11 carries, with scoring runs of 1 and 6 yards.
Brenden Kerns scored on a 61-yard run and totaled 68 for the game as the Cougars rushed for a whopping 523 yards.
M-C quarterback Drew Wyffels was 4-for-7 passing for 83 yards and one touchdown.

West Lutheran (0-8) had 93 yards rushing and 254 passing. Quarterback Ben Beise completed 11 of 21 attempts for 251 yards and two touchdowns.
M-C (6-2) will be the No. 3 seed in the Section One, Nine-Man playoffs behind the state's top two-ranked teams, Grand Meadow and Spring Grove.
