Football | New Prague 35, Red Wing 2

RED WING — New Prague bottled up the Red Wing offense and won 35-2 in a Missota Conference football game Friday night. 

New Prague used a methodical rushing attack to build a 28-0 lead by halftime and run the Wingers out of the game. 

Red Wing (1-6) lost its sixth straight after a season-opening non-conference win over Austin, and the Wingers are now 0-5 in the Missota Conference. New Prague is 4-3, 3-3 in the conference. 

New Prague piled up 298 yards rushing on 51 attempts. Junior fullback Nathon Preston carried the load with 23 rushed for 126 yards and three short touchdown runs. 

New Prague quarterback Kyle Stepka passed for 71 yards and rushed for 55, including a one-yard touchdown.

Red Wing's only points came with 8:23 left in the fourth quarter on a safety. New Prague lost a fumble in its own back field and Red Wing defensive back Andrew Sandstrom tackled Stepka in the end zone as he covered the ball. 

The Wingers managed just 106 yards in total offense. Senior Ricky Turcotte and junior Isaac Toivonen split time at quarterback and combined for 9-of-21 for 75 yards. Andre Page was the leading rusher with nine carries for 25 yards. 

Red Wing closes the regular season at Chanhassen (4-3) on Wednesday.
