WINONA — Rushford-Peterson used an effective running game to soundly beat Chatfield 29-12 in a Southern Football Alliance football game Saturday at Winona State University.
Rushford-Peterson took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter never relinquished it against the defending Class AA state champions.
R-P improved to 2-0 in the SFA Blue Division, and Chatfield is 1-1 in the SFA Blue after its 14-game winning streak was snapped.
"We played really good team defense, our offensive line blocked really hard, and we ran the ball well," said R-P head coach Davin Thompson. The Trojans avenged a 24-7 loss to Chatfield last season in week five.
"Chatfield is a really great team," Thompson added. "The ball just bounced our way in this one. I'm proud of our guys."
