MONTGOMERY — Tri-City United took a quarter to get warmed up, then it stormed to a big halftime lead and held off Cannon Falls in the second half for a 30-14 victory in a Section One, Class AAA quarterfinal game.
TCU, the No. 2 seed in the section, led 2-0 after one quarter, then tacked on three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 23-6 halftime lead.
Seventh-seeded Cannon Falls (2-7) got within 23-14 in the fourth quarter, but TCU answered with a late score to win by 16.
Mason Beissel led the Bombers, completing 15 of 35 passes for 214 yards and a touchdown. Tanner Carlson was his leading receiver, catching five balls for 89 yards and a touchdown.
TCU will play host to third-seeded Plainview-Elgin-Millville in a section semfinal game at 7 p.m. Saturday. Both teams received votes in this week's Class AAA state poll.
