BYRON — Dan Fujan had 166 yards rushing and two touchdowns as No. 3 Byron toppled No. 8 Albert Lea 28-14 in Section One, Class AAAA football on Tuesday.
The game was scoreless at the half. Byron built a 14-0 lead after three quarters and then led 21-0 early in the fourth.
"When we needed it, our defense held up," Byron coach John Austinson said.
Fujan scored on runs of 53 and 38 yards for the host Bears. Quarterback Ryan Thompson rushed for 81 yards, including a 44-yard TD run. Thompson was also 3-for-10 passing for 38 yards and one TD. Kip Knutson caught all three passes from Thompson, including a 19-yard scoring pass.
Byron (4-5) had 267 yards rushing and 38 passing for 305 total yards.

Albert Lea (0-9) had 218 yards rushing and 98 passing. Quarterback Jacob Kilby had 38 carries for 129 yards and one TD.
Byron had five sacks, including 2.5 by linebacker Isaac Jestus, and recovered two fumbles, one each by Fujan and Mark Krings.
Byron will play at No. 2 Kasson-Mantorville at 7 p.m. Saturday.
