Tiny Goodhue and much larger Lakeville North both came to the Rochester Rotary Holiday Classic girls basketball tournament looking for a test.
Lakeville North passed this one behind exceptional passing.
Lakeville North displayed its ability to zip the ball around the court in a 67-51 win over Goodhue in a Post-Bulletin bracket first-round game Tuesday afternoon at Mayo Civic Center Auditorium.
It was the first loss for Goodhue (9-1), which is ranked No. 1 in Class A. It was the third straight win for Lakeville North (8-1), ranked No. 8 in Class AAAA.
"We're not thrilled with losing, obviously," said Goodhue head coach Josh Wieme. "But you play good teams like this to expose yourself and show what needs to be worked on."

Lakeville North broke away from a close game with a 10-1 run late in the first half and assumed a double-digit lead that it never relinquished, although Goodhue stayed within 15 the rest of the way.
Wieme said he was "amazed" by what a great passing team Lakeville North proved to be.
"With five kids on the floor there was not a weak link, and even when players came off the bench they still really zipped it around," he said. "They also knocked down a lot of shots."
Goodhue had been allowing only 40 points per game.
Sophomore forward Sydney Lodermeier starred for Goodhue with 19 points and eight rebounds. She sat the last five minutes of the first half after picking up her third foul, and then came back to score Goodhue's first nine points in the second half.
For the Panthers, junior guard Temi Carda scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the first half, with six points in the game-breaking run.
Lakeville North head coach Shelly Clemons felt her Panthers played "a little flat."
"We knew that Goodhue would be a good team and a good challenge for us," she said. "We came down here to win two games and that's still the goal; hopefully we will get a chance to play JM (on Tuesday)."

Clemons felt her team played "a little flat."
"But the thing is we've been winning close games and we didn't do that last year," she noted. "We have more experience and we are playing more as a team this year."
