Rochester Mayo was way too much for recently struggling Mankato West as it drilled the Scarlets 54-28 in Big Nine Conference girls basketball Friday.
Anna Winter scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Mayo, and Olivia Korngable had eight assists, three rebounds and two blocked shots.
"It was an excellent win over a team that is struggling, but had hit 10 3-pointers on us at West and beat us fair and square (in the first meeting)," Mayo coach Rick Decker said. "Anna Winter again provided us with an outstanding game. Olivia Korngable brought her turnovers down and had eight huge assists. After giving them a ton of points at West, all of our kids really turned in a solid defensive effort."
Decker likes where his team is headed.
"It's always tough to judge improvement but these kids have worked extremely hard and are definitely trying to build this program into a consistent winner," Decker said.

Notes:An excellent win over a team that is struggling, but hit 10 threes on us at West and beat us fair and square. Anna Winter again provided us with an outstanding game. Liv Korngable brought her turnovers down and had 8 huge assists. After giving them a ton of points, at West all our kids really turned in a solid defensive effort. Our goal will be to carry this over to another good effort on Tues, to another team that beat us the first time. It's always tough to judge imporvement but these kids have worked extrmemly hard and are definately trying to build this program into a consistent winner.
