Rochester Mayo turned in an excellent overall game and toppled Mankato West 57-47 in Big Nine Conference girls basketball Tuesday.
The Spartans led by 10 points at intermission and hung on.
Mayo moved to 6-2 in the Big Nine and 8-7 overall. West is 5-6, 6-10.
Mayo coach Rich Decker sees good says ahead.
"We are 6-2 in the conference, and at this point, even with our tough schedule approaching, we are optimistic with seven of our next 10 games at home," Decker said. "We played well after coming off two games with no time to prepare. We are a young team that is improving."

Anna Winter had 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists for Mayo. Shelby Stewart had 13 points. Olivia Korngable had eight points and seven assists.
Claire Ziegler had 17 points for Mankato West (5-6, 6-10).
"East is a very physical, with an all-conference player in Zeigler," Decker said. "It was an excellent effort overall. Anna Winter was again solid in the post and our overall guard play was instrumental in our success."
