The Rochester Mayo girls basketball team, looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season on Friday, cranked up its defensive pressure and cruised to a 63-33 win over Owatonna.
Mayo head coach Rich Decker saw plenty to like in his team's performance.
"Owatonna is a dangerous offensive team and had been averaging well over 60 points per game," he said. "Holding Sydney Schultz to three points and Rachel Williamson to five points is a fine effort."
The Spartans also had a good night offensively, particularly from beyond the three-point line, with Olivia Korngable draining four triples on her way to 23 points. Hallie Olson hit three from beyond the arc, while Anna Winter dominated inside, grabbing 11 rebounds and scoring 16 points for a double-double.
"Lexie Riley, Liv Korngable and Hallie Olson gave us some outstanding guard play," Decker said, but added that Riley suffered an injury that "might give some other players a real chance to contribute."

The Spartans had 12 steals, including four from Korngable and three from Riley.
Just one Owatonna player reached double figures, with Jenna Zeman scoring 10 points.
