Mayo avenged an earlier loss to Mankato West this season with a strong all-around 60-33 win over the Scarlets on Friday in Big Nine Conference girls basketball.

"Our kids had waited almost two months since the loss at West early in the season," Mayo Rich Decker said.

The Spartans (13-3 Big Nine, 14-4 overall) have now won 10 straight games.

"We are all very proud of this group," Decker said. "Winning 10 in a row is quite an effort in the Big Nine, no matter what the sport."

"Hannah Larson had an outstanding double-double and Anna Winter played her normal tenacious sound overall game," Decker said.

Mayo, second in the Big Nine, faces league leader John Marshall on Tuesday. JM is No. 1 in the state in points allowed in Class AAAA and Mayo is No. 4.

"We look for a fun challenge on Tuesday night at JM," Decker said. "They really are an outstanding team and hopefully we can be competitive."
