Girls basketball: P-E-M, Dover-Eyota are top seeds in 1AA

Highly ranked Plainview-Elgin-Millville and Dover-Eyota received the top two seeds as expected in the Section 1AA girls basketball tournament which begins this week.

Highly ranked Plainview-Elgin-Millville and Dover-Eyota received the top two seeds as expected in the Section 1AA girls basketball tournament which begins this week.

P-E-M, the top ranked team in Class AA for most of the season, is the No. 1 seed. Dover-Eyota, the defending Class AA state champion and ranked No. 7, is No. 2 in the 16-team bracket.

D-E beat P-E-M in overtime in the 2015 section final and the Eagles went on to win state in their first trip. Now P-E-M is looking for its first state tournament berth, after beating D-E twice by double digits in the regular season en route to the Three Rivers Conference crown.

All 16 teams begin play at 7 p.m. Thursday with higher seeded teams hosting:

The top bracket of the quarterfinals is Feb. 29 and the bottom bracket is March 2, all at Mayo Civic Center Arena, with games at 6 and 7:30 p.m. each night.

Section semifinals are March 5 at Mayo Auditorium and the section final is March 11 at Mayo Arena.

Goodhue, R-P draw top seeds in 1A

Top-ranked Goodhue is the No. 1 seed in the Section 1A West subsection girls basketball tournament which begins this week.

Goodhue, with its 23-4 record, is one of two highly ranked teams in the Section 1A field. Lyle/Pacell (23-3) is the No. 2 seed in 1A West. L/P is the defending section champion and is ranked No. 5.

L/P qualified for state for the first time in 2015 and finished fourth at the state tournament. Goodhue won the section in 2014.

Rushford-Peterson (16-9) is the top seed in the 1A East bracket.

The subsection semifinals are March 2, and the finals are March 5, all at Mayo Civic Center Arena. The Section 1A championship game is March 11 at Mayo Arena.
