Girls basketball | Winona 60, John Marshall 57

Winona's Dulcey Milek made a three-point shot with two seconds left and the Winhawks escaped Rochester with a 60-57 girls basketball win over John Marshall on Friday night.

Winona avenged an earlier nine-point loss to JM and won its fourth game in its last five.

JM lost its second close game this week and dropped its fourth game in the last six. JM is 12-11 overall and 8-8 in the Big Nine heading into the last week of the regular season.

JM coach Terry Heiderscheit called it "another tough loss."

"We fell behind early and battled back," he said. "We need to keep looking for ways to avoid runs by the other team and play better with more consistency."

Milek finished with 17 points to lead three Winona players in double figures.

JM is home Tuesday against Owatonna, and closes the regular season Friday at Austin.
