Rochester Mayo scored a goal in each period and skated to its seventh straight win 3-1 over Albert Lea in a Big Nine Conference girls hockey game Thursday at Graham Arena.
Gabby Laures, Mackenzie McCormack and Emily Nelson all scored for Mayo, and goalie Jamie Clay made 21 saves as the Spartans improved to 9-2-0 overall and 7-0-0 in the conference.
Albert Lea lost its 11 straight and is 1-13, 1-7 in the Big Nine.
"The girls found a way to get the job done once again for another Big 9 win but we let them hang around in a one-goal game way to long," said Mayo coach Jeff Phillips. "We need to be better about creating space in the offensive zone and then beating the goalie."
Phillips said Clay was "the difference maker" in goal for Mayo, taking away quality chances from Albert Lea for shutouts in the second and third periods.
